School Sports Partnerships
Sports Development in my home area has taken a bit of a battering since the government review of just a year ago. Many people have found their workload increase considerably.I am pleased to report that despite job losses and the sadness that brings there is a determination amongst those that are left to provide as much as they possibly can.
In Tameside the Building Schools for the Future programme was at a stage of committment that work had to continue.Tameside MBC has been committed to sport and generally has promoted sport very well over the last two decades.I have noted though that when two local High Schools merged there was effectively a 50% cut in indoor space although they gained some very good outdoor fields and astro MUGAS.the previous two schools both had sports halls big enough to host Indoor Netball or Basketball tournaments and one school went a long way in national competitions.Sadly the success of Sony and others mean that many teenagers are not very robust and don't cope well in the Autumn and Winter weather.i wish i had the answer to finding a balance to modern living which helped get more young people into the outdoors.its a question of belief.many of the parents don't believe its good for them and complian when P.E.staff take them outside in the autumn and winter.
At a recent meeting in Rochdale staff from all over GREATER Manchester met to plan events for Disability Sport and there was a very positive attitude.Looking towards the PARALYMPICS this is an area that has certainly moved forwards in a very positive way in the last two decades.
School sport partnerships are at the heart of all this .Please support the schools in your area and encourage school/club links.
