Do You drink enough ?

Hydration is a serious issue for competitive sportsmen and women but how does it affect younger people? The answer is pretty much the same.On days like those we have been experiencing recently its possible that fluid loss can be as much as two litres lost in sweat and thats without working hard constantly all day. Many people in this country exxist in a dehydrated state , especially in Summer time , this includes non - athletes.Natives of warmer climates cope by learning quickly and having habits built into daily life. For example many mediteranean countries have siasta where they stay out of the sun in the middle part of the day and often have a nap. When coffee is drunk it is accompanied by a glass of water.Everyone should drink two and a half litres of water a day which is alot to get down.
Have you done the Pee Test ? If you visit the toilet and your urine is yellow it means you are already dehydrated. If it is clear or light straw colour you are hydrated. It is not possible to correct it all at once by drinking a couple of litres in ten minutes, in fact that could cause you problems.the method is little and often so that your body can absorb it.Electrolyte drinks such as gatorade, lucozade sport and powerade tap into the fact that we lose body salts along with sweat and these need replenishing. The claim is these drinks assist in the absorbtion process.A search of the internet will reveal recipes for home produced drinks which replace salt along with fluid. Its important to get the balance right.Recently some of the supermarkets had packs of four gatorade at half price. It is also a good idea to take in some carbohydrate and protein within an hour of performing to replenish Glycogen stores in muscles , important to recovery.Do a search to find out more detail.
