Buying running shoes or spikes
Go to a shop like sweatshop on market street in Hyde ; its worth the effort and i,ll tell you why. There are a few shops , this is one of them, where the assistants are all runners and they know exactly what they are selling. This shop is amongst a chain (not always a good thing but it is in this case.)which was started by Chris Brasher.Chris is most famous for being the pacemaker for Bannister when he broke the four minute mile barrier at Oxford , he also introduced New Balance trainers to the U.K. market.it always stocks good quality athletics gear backed by sound staff kowledge. On a Saturday morning they have a trainee podiatrist on hand and now i believe a physiotherapist.Situated in the shop is a treadmill linked to a monitor which records and replays your running action so they can see your runningstyle. If you rollinwards you are a pronator if you roll outwards on your feet you are a supinator and some of you lucky ones are stable planters. How you plant your feet is important to the rest of your leg action and minor injuries can be caused by imperfections in this after alot of miles.
Trainers on the shelves are categorised according to your action so you can see what suits your feet. You can also try out the trainers on a treadmill to see which you like best;much better than just walking in a shop.
One more tip wear the socks you are going to run in when you try on the trainers. Its also a good idea to buy shoes in the afternoon as your feet swell slightly during the day.
Dave Norman the manager of the shop tells me today,28march, that some track spikes for the new season are in , whilst more will be in during the next two weeks.See my link to their website. However be aware that the website can serve more than one shop and act independently as a mail order faccility so what you see on the site may not be in the shop on the day you visit.I would say this is the best shop in the greater manchester area.
